Why are a white garment and a candle given at Baptism?
The white garment shows that the newly baptized has “put on Christ,” and the candle, lit from the Easter candle, shows that Christ has enlightened them (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1243).
What do godparents usually give?
There is no rule. A first rosary, a baptismal candle, a cross for the nursery wall or a children's Bible are all good choices, and any of them can be blessed.
Can Baptism gifts be blessed?
Yes. Any priest or deacon can bless religious articles, and a blessing is always free. Many families ask after Mass.
